CASE : IT Pieces - Phaser BoDies
for Ballet of Difference
For the dance piece 'Xerrox Vol.2' by Ballet of Difference, Flora Miranda designed not only the costumes but also a product derivative called ‘Phaser BoDies’.
The dance piece 'Xerrox Vol.2' is mainly inspired by the correlating musical piece by German musician and artist Alva Noto. Alva Noto is known for composing based on frequencies.
We generatively visualised the frequency of the music. With this visualisation we not only creates the costume designs, making the dancers wear the music on stage. But also, the 66 minutes of music resulted in 66 scarves, each looking different by visually showing the music's frequency. Like this, the ballet visitors were able to take the ballet costume out of the theater context into their own life.

‘IT Pieces’, generatively visualised the frequency of the music giving the dancers unique pieces of the music to wear, the 66 minutes of music resulting in 66 scarves.
Analyzing Musical Frequencies
The process of fetching and analyzing data is visualized in a realtime 3D animation made with Touchdesigner. The visual system is designed by Flora Miranda/IT Pieces and executed in cooperation with coding artist Dan Tapper.
The Process
The result is a holistic concept – a product and art object that creates a strong public reach of the multidisciplinary ballet piece.
The scarf as a medium is chosen to serve the broad public of a ballet company – all genders, body types and age groups. The specific organic shape of the scarf can be worn as a skirt or as a top. Transforms into a costume for society.
